ISBA has joined the IPA in expressing concern at the governance of Project Canvas, the new video-on-demand platform proposed by ITV, the BBC and BT.
The advertiser body has already responded to the consultation being run by the BBC Trust into the shape of the future service, supporting the concept. ISBA’s submission reflected advertisers’ desire for an open source, open access commercial counterbalance to the BBC’s iPlayer.
But now Director of Media and Advertising Bob Wootton says ISBA and its members are keen to ensure that oversight of the new service is not left to the BBC Trust alone and should involve broadcasting and communications regulator Ofcom.
“It has become clear to us that the BBC Trust is not the appropriate body to oversee Project Canvas which as well as delivering public service broadcasting will provide much commercial content and opportunity too,” he said.
