ISBA says advertisers “doing their bit” for European Green Week

Advertisers are playing their part in helping to meet the environmental challenge, says the convenor of ISBA’s Sustainability Working Group Ian Twinn.
He says marketers are keen to demonstrate their credentials as a responsible industry by doing their bit to address the issues set out by officials and environmental campaigners during European Green Week.
The ISBA Public Affairs Director, in Brussels today at the start of the week-long conference, was reacting to a call to action from EU Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas in his opening speech.
Twinn added: “Those involved in Green Week have really thrown down the gauntlet on climate change, asking how Europe can act and adapt. The part that business and the media can play - in acting to make real changes and in communicating more effectively - has been high on the agenda.
“At ISBA, our Sustainability Working Group of leading advertisers is tackling the thorny issues of how we can best get out the message about companies’ genuine green achievements without over claiming.”
ISBA, the UK advertiser body, also sits on Defra’s environmental marketing steering group, set up to develop guidelines to help advertisers avoid accusations of greenwash in their marketing communications.
