Direct marketers air concerns over electoral roll access

Commenting on the publication of the Data Sharing Review report, undertaken for the Government by the Information Commissioner, ISBA’s Public Affairs Director Ian Twinn said:
“The point which most concerns advertisers is the recommendation that the Government withdraws access to the edited electoral roll from direct marketers.
“There are benefits to having electoral roll data publicly available, not least for data cleaning purposes – it is in no one’s interests for out of date addresses or incorrect names to remain on direct marketing databases.
“But advertisers recognise that it is for Government to decide where the line on access to data is drawn.”
