Championing the needs of advertisers

Pete Markey
Vice President, ISBA

Pete Markey, recently appointed ISBA Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at TSB discusses his new role and how he's worked with ISBA in the past.

This is my first note as ISBA Vice President and its a huge privilege to be taking on this role at such a pivotal time for the industry.

Over my 20+ year career to date I’ve been lucky enough to see the many evolutions and revolutions our industry has seen and experienced and grappled first hand with the challenges that these have presented.

Throughout this, ISBA have been a consistent force for good even in the early days of my career at British Gas and the AA right through to my more recent roles at Aviva and TSB. Their expertise and talented team have helped me and the brands I have worked on when we’ve needed real insights and representation to move things forward. From understanding advertising regulations and a changing approval and compliance landscape to training through to effective pitches and contracts to set relationships up on the right footing between client and agency, ISBA have always been a force for good.

What particularly excites me though is this period right now and ISBA under Phil’s leadership which has helped inject a new energy into an organisation committed to representing advertisers today. This has already resulted in significantly important engagements most notably with Google and Facebook as advertisers, including a number of brands I have worked on, grapple with the need for greater accountability and transparency from the industry.

My role now is to support and work with Phil and the leadership team to help take ISBA on to the next stage of its journey to further champion the needs of advertisers and to help shape an evolving industry in a way that really works and gives the openness, accountability and transparency that we all want and need.

Exciting times ahead. Watch this space.
