ISBA comments on Sky Media and Guinness’ expansion of accessible Premier League coverage

Sky Media and Guinness have launched Sky Sports’ largest live sports accessibility rollout to date, introducing Live Subtitles and Live Descriptive Audio Commentary across Premier League coverage.

From 10 October 2026, Live Subtitles will be available for all front-channel Premier League matches on Sky Sports — around 210 games each season — while Live Descriptive Audio Commentary will cover approximately 109 games per season.

The initiative, co-funded by Sky Media and Guinness as an extension of Guinness’ Premier League sponsorship, is designed to make live football more accessible for blind, partially sighted and hard-of-hearing fans.

The Descriptive Audio Commentary service provides a continuous account of the action, atmosphere and movement of play. It was developed through testing with representative users, accessibility specialists, Sky’s diversity advisory council, Access Services and the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB).

Turning accessibility commitments into action

Diageo, the owner of Guinness, is a member of ISBA’s Ad Accessibility Network, which brings together advertisers, agencies, media owners and accessibility specialists to support more inclusive advertising and media experiences.

ISBA’s Director of Industry Relations, Bobi Carley, said: “As a member of ISBA’s Ad Accessibility Network, Diageo is setting a strong example of how accessibility commitments can be turned into meaningful action. Through its partnership with Sky, this initiative shows how brands can use the scale and influence of sponsorship to create a more inclusive experience for audiences, delivering tangible change and helping to raise the bar for the wider industry.”

How to access the services

Descriptive Audio Commentary can be enabled through voice control, Accessibility Settings or the on-screen options menu. Live Subtitles can be switched on through the options menu or Accessibility Settings.

Both services will be available across Sky+, Sky Q, Sky Glass, Sky Stream and NOW, as well as for viewers watching Sky Sports through Virgin Media.
