ISBA Manifesto launched for 2019 General Election

ISBA has published its manifesto for the 2019 General Election, and for the new Parliament which will be elected on 12 December.

The last few years have seen a number of proposals from government for action on areas from HFSS to online harms – as well as the unresolved Brexit process. Combined with the ICO’s adtech investigation, the CMA’s market study, and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport’s proposal for a review of online advertising, our sector has faced extraordinary uncertainty and potential regulatory upheaval in recent times.

When they take up their seats in Parliament, our MPs need to focus on supporting advertisers as successful British exporters and the engine of our creative industries. That’s why ISBA is calling on the next Government to do four key things as a priority:

  1. End the Brexit uncertainty - by finalising a data adequacy agreement with Brussels and agreeing standard contractual clauses
  2. Redouble efforts to tackle online harms - by legislating for an independent body to regulate platforms
  3. Reset government plans to tackle childhood obesity - by ending plans for a watershed and researching evidence-led policies
  4. Support the advertising sector - by cancelling DCMS’s study and focusing on the CMA and ICO’s conclusions

Whichever party or parties takes office, if we are to support advertising as the third largest sector of the UK economy, then we need to see action in 2020 on these goals.
