ISBA response to the DCMS Review of the Gambling Act 2005

ISBA made a submission to the Government's consultation on its review of the Gambling Act 2005.

Gambling is a legitimate and legal activity safely enjoyed by millions of people across the country. There have been profound changes in the market since the 2005 Act was passed, with a huge shift to digital and the development of smartphone apps, so taking a look at the Act makes sense. There have been examples of harms, and they should be responded to, but any measures must be proportionate and based on the evidence.

Our members already deploy tech to ensure that ads are delivered to the right audiences, and to intervene where it appears that problem gambling is arising. Our submission to the review highlights the importance of tech in responding to changes in the market, while reflecting on the evidence on the state of the sector.
